Female Flower Tattoos

Flower tattoos are among the most popular tattoo designs amongst women. They are beautiful and timeless, you really can't go wrong with flower tattoos. It probably isn't the type of tattoo you will regret having when a few years have passed by.

In the past, flower tattoos were used as charms against evil spirits. Nowadays the flower as a symbol is very personal and the meaning very flexible. What a rose means to you is probably not what it means to me.

However, if you're thinking about getting a flower tattoo, it's best to do some research about the basic meaning of the flower in question.

Flower Tattoos

Rose tattoos are the most popular of all flower tattoos and can be commonly found on both men and women. Roses can have a lot of different meanings. Red roses can represent love or passion and white roses can be the symbol of purity or a new start. They can serve as a memorial for someone who has passed away or as a symbol of the love you feel for someone. I have seen some beautiful ones with details showing rose petals falling off.

Daisies are also common in flower tattoos, often part of full tattoo along the lower back area. The design of such flower tattoos can be a bunch of small daisies or one or two larger ones with very detailed petals. Small tattoos featuring daises look really nice on the ankle or shoulder. Daisies are a symbol of innocence and purity. I have seen some great ones with the various petals featuring the names and birth dates of a woman's children.

Tropical flower tattoos are often part of a Hawaiian style of tattoo. These types of flower tattoos are displayed by both men and women. They are often placed on the arm or the leg as part of a band that goes in a complete circle around the area. This represents the endless cycle of life, love, and happiness.

Sunflower tattoo designs allow the person to display more originality than other forms of flower tattoos. This is because most people don't automatically think of a sunflower when associating symbols with tattoos. For a sunflower tattoo design to be very detailed, it has to be large. Therefore they are commonly found on the lower back or the shoulder blade area along the back.

The lotus flower is the flower tattoo design that is the most popular amongst men. The lotus flower is a symbol for growth, wisdom and spirituality and is a popular symbol in the East. A lotus flower struggles from the dirt of a pond to the surface where it becomes a beautiful flower. This struggle reminds a lot of people to their own struggle of life.

Other flowers that lend themselves well for a tattoo design are orchids, hibiscus, lilies, peonies and jasmine. Flowers combine well with other symbols like vines, butterflies, fairies, birds, ...

Flower tattoos have become more popular over the years, mainly because our society now finds it acceptable for women to display tattoos. They are considered to be very feminine. Because of their shape, flowers are a symbol for the female womb or female fertility. Men also have flower tattoos, but they usually combine the flower with other symbols like for example a rose with barb wire.

There are no limits when it comes to the style and design of flower tattoos.
